Why on earth would you work and spend so much time on an old and dead technology? thats what you really want to know. Well imma gonna tell ya. But First what the heck is BBS? Welp Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) are basically self-contained online communities. A BBS is almost like a miniaturized Internet. A BBS has a variety of things for users to do – Read and Write messages in Discussion Forums, Upload and Download files, and Play online games and real time chat. Also most bbses have a huge amount of ANSI art to look at. That being said –

So its 50% nostalgia and 50% keeping the “scene” alive. There are so few of us around and every year it seems that one of the good ones passes away. Every time we lose someone the scene gets just a little smaller. So a few of us try to keep the scene alive and try to provide a fun retro family and learning experience, Not to mention give Gen Xers flash backs to thier youth. Is the technology really dead? Not really, with the addition of Python code BBSes are more relevant then ever and get better every day. BBS mods have come a long way. Meanwhile at the Solaris family of fine BBSes we try to be rated PG 13 and hope to provide a learning experience for younger generations. There is a lot to explore, lean and play with on today’s modern BBSes. I try or have tried to offer every BBS experience out there but it seems that the more boards I log into the more I get surprised with what other Sysop have done with thier own boards. If you are getting back into the scene or wanting to become a new sysop I’m here to help. While I run Mystic BBS software there are other options from Synchronet to Winserver they are all listed on the top of the Other BBSes page. I hope you enjoyed your stay and encourage you login and check out not only my BBSes but all the other BBSes out there as well.

Thanks for stopping by -Solaris
